Why trim makes the room
Trim covers the joints where walls meet floors, doors, windows and ceilings. When it's damaged, gapped or missing, a room looks unfinished even with new paint and flooring. New baseboard after flooring, tight miters at the corners, and caulked, painted joints make a room look finished. Decorative trim like board-and-batten, picture frame molding and wainscoting adds character to plain walls.
What affects the price of trim work
Tell us the rooms, measure the walls if you can, and send photos of the existing trim. That's enough for a close estimate.
- Linear feet of trim
- Profile and material: MDF, finger-joint pine or hardwood
- Matching an existing or older profile
- Paint-grade versus stain-grade finish
- Decorative work like board-and-batten or wainscoting, which is priced by the wall
How we install trim
We measure every run, cope or miter inside corners so the joints stay tight as the house moves with the seasons, and nail into studs and plates so the trim stays put. After installation we fill nail holes, caulk the joints to the wall, and paint. For board-and-batten and accent walls, we lay out the spacing on the wall first so the boards land evenly and work around outlets and switches.
After new flooring
Flooring installers often pull baseboard and leave a gap at the floor. We reinstall or replace the baseboard and add shoe molding where needed to cover the expansion gap that floating floors need.

Can you match my old trim?
Usually. Common profiles are in stock. For older homes we'll find the closest match or replace a full room so it's consistent.
Do you paint the trim too?
Yes. Most trim jobs include caulk, nail fill and paint.
Can you add trim after new floors?
Yes. We reinstall baseboard and add shoe molding after flooring goes in.
Can you match trim in an older home?
Usually. Common profiles are in stock. For older homes we'll find the closest match or replace a full room so everything is consistent.
MDF or wood?
MDF is smooth, stable and paints well, and it's great for most rooms. In bathrooms, laundry rooms and anywhere it might get wet, we use wood or PVC.
Do you paint the trim too?
Yes. Most trim jobs include filling, caulking and paint.
