When a new door makes sense
A new door fixes problems repairs can't: a cracked or warped slab, a hollow-core door that won't stay quiet, an exterior door that leaks air no matter how much weatherstripping you add, or simply a style that doesn't fit the house anymore. New interior doors are also one of the quickest ways to update a whole floor of a house.
- Exterior doors that are rotted, drafty or hard to lock
- Hollow-core interior doors you want to upgrade
- Closet, bifold and barn-style doors
- Storm doors
- New hardware throughout the house
What affects the price of door installation
Measure the door and frame, or send photos and we'll measure on a quick visit.
- Prehung door versus slab only
- Interior or exterior
- Door style and material
- Frame condition. Rotted jambs or thresholds add repair work.
- Hardware, casing and paint
How we install doors
For a prehung door, we remove the old door and frame, check the opening for level and plumb, then set and shim the new unit so it's square. We fasten through the jamb into the framing, check that the door swings and latches evenly, and insulate the gap around exterior doors before trimming them out. Slab-only replacements are cut to fit and hinged to the existing frame. We install the hardware, put the casing back or install new casing, and haul away the old door.
Choosing the right door
Solid-core interior doors block sound far better than hollow-core and feel more substantial. For exterior doors, fiberglass resists dents, rot and moisture and can look like wood. Steel is secure and affordable. If you're unsure, we'll walk you through options that fit your budget and the house.
