Why prep matters more than paint

Paint doesn't hide problems. It highlights them. Nail holes, dents, cracked caulk and patched spots all show through a fresh coat, especially in eggshell and satin finishes that catch light. That's why most of the time on a good interior paint job goes into prep: filling, sanding, caulking and priming repairs so the finish coat goes onto a smooth, sound surface. It's also why we patch drywall as part of the job instead of painting over damage.

What affects the price of interior painting

Photos of each room, plus the colors you're considering, let us give you a written estimate. These are the biggest factors.

  • Room size and ceiling height. Vaulted ceilings and stairwells take staging and time.
  • What's being painted: walls, ceilings, trim, doors or all of them
  • Color change. Going from dark to light, or to a deep color, often needs primer and an extra coat.
  • Prep. Heavy patching, wallpaper removal and peeling paint add time.
  • Furniture. Full rooms take longer to protect and move around.

How we paint a room

We move and cover furniture, protect floors with drop cloths, and take down outlet covers and wall hangings. Then we fill holes, repair drywall, sand, and caulk gaps along trim. Repairs get primed. We cut in edges by hand for straight lines at the ceiling and trim, then roll walls in even sections to avoid lap marks. Most rooms get two finish coats. At the end we reinstall covers, put furniture back, walk the room with you, and touch up anything you point out.

Choosing a finish

Flat or matte hides wall flaws best and suits ceilings and low-traffic rooms. Eggshell is the most common choice for living areas: it wipes clean and still looks soft. Satin works well in kitchens, baths and kids' rooms. Semi-gloss is the standard for trim and doors because it stands up to scuffs. We'll recommend a finish for each surface if you're not sure.

Questions we get

Anything else, call or text (816) 300-6444.

Who buys the paint?

We do, and it's itemized on your estimate. If you already have a color and brand, we'll use it.

How long does a room take?

A typical bedroom is one day. Ceilings, dark color changes and heavy patching add time, and your estimate will say so.

Do I need to move furniture?

Clear small items and wall decor. We move and cover the furniture.

Do you help pick colors?

We can bring samples and share what's worked in similar rooms, but we'd always suggest testing a sample on your wall before deciding.

How long until I can use the room?

Most rooms are usable the same evening. Paint takes a few weeks to fully cure, so be gentle with scrubbing at first.

Can you paint accent walls or board-and-batten?

Yes. Accent walls, board-and-batten and other trim details are some of our favorite projects.
